The Purépecha Essence Circuit

Don Vasco died in the town of Uruapan, in “La Huatápera” which was then a chapel and is now an indigenous museum which we strongly recommend you to visit. But the most fascinating things about the Plateau can be found in the small Purépecha villages, such as the renowned “historiated skies” (i.e. beautifully painted ceilings) of the Temples of Zacán, Nurío or Cocucho or the magnificent façade of Angahuan’s church. The local traditions are kept alive by the luthiers of Paracho and by the women artisans with their pottery, their textiles, and their cooking.
