The museum showcases an extraordinary collection as far as its historical value is concerned; its halls exhibit all kinds of documents, old books, religious ornaments, paintings and maps dating from the viceregal period. Furthermore the museum’s main permanent exhibition focuses on the life of Jesus Christ, thus featuring 100 images of Christ dating from several periods (ranging from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century) and elaborated using different styles, techniques and materials.

The building itself is a historical monument of great architectonic beauty. It is an old baroque mansion from the colonial period built during the 18th century and remodeled into a neoclassical style during the 20th century. It was here that Luis Arango established the first printing press in the city of Morelia, on June 23th 1821. In addition, this museum offers seminars, conferences and cultural activities in order to promote historical interest within the region.
