Former Franciscan Convent in Morelia (Temple of San Francisco de Asís)

Churches and cemeteries

The Franciscans founded the San Francisco Temple and the Convent of San Buenaventura in 1536; however, the works were not completed until 1610. It is said that these buildings are the oldest in the city.

One of the Temple’s main features is a stoned carved statue of the Virgin with a child coming out of a flower. The façade of the church preserves its original baroque design (a rectangular nave with heavy walls supporting the vault), although the rest of the temple is mostly plateresque.
