Churches and cemeteries

This temple dedicated to Santiago Apostle (Saint James) is one of the few architectural compounds in Mexico influenced by Mudejar art. It was also one of the first religious constructions in purepecha territory, as it was part of the Spanish missions carried out during the 16th century. Its triple alfiz is unique in Mexico and the entrance arch is adorned with finest phytomorphic details and a Franciscan cord. Its façade features a quarry sculpture of Saint James.
